New research published by the Fair Work Agency (FWA) and carried out by UCL has revealed the scale of labour market non-compliance and wider workplace harms affecting workers across the UK. The report highlights growing concerns around issues including unpaid work, missing employment documentation, unfair deductions, mental health pressures and workplace bullying.
According to the research, around one in seven workers experienced at least one clear breach of employment law over a two-year period, with the study estimating that between 5.4 and 5.8 million workers may have had basic employment rights breached.
The report also found that around seven in ten workers experienced at least one form of work-related issue or harm, ranging from unpaid extra hours and unfair deductions through to negative mental health impacts and bullying in the workplace.
The Fair Work Agency says the findings will help shape future enforcement strategy, with a focus on improving worker awareness, supporting compliant businesses and taking stronger action against organisations that exploit workers or ignore employment law.
At Corr Recruitment, we believe strong compliance, worker support and clear communication are essential parts of responsible recruitment. As the industry continues to evolve, maintaining high standards and protecting workers remains a priority for both recruitment businesses and employers across the supply chain.
